Obituary

Reverend Francis (Frank) Smith Cannon, age 82, of Hillsboro, Kentucky, embarked on his heavenly journey on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at UK – St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead, Kentucky.

Frank was born June 21, 1942, in Albany, Georgia, the son of Hoke and Lucilla (Cook) Cannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bill Lumpkin and a son-in-law, Chris Bramel.

Frank was an Air Force Veteran having served from 1961 to 1964 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He attended U of L, Emory University, and Duke Divinity School.  Frank was retired from the United Methodist Church Ministry having pastored at Lumber City UMC, Dodge's Chapel, Shelton's Chapel in the South Georgia Conference, Tollesboro UMC, Hillsboro UMC, Poplar Plains UMC, Ringos Mills UMC, and he retired from his pastoral duties while at Wallingford UMC in the Kentucky Conference.

Frank also retired from Comprehend Incorporated being instrumental to initiating the Champions Against Drugs Program within the elementary schools in the 5-county region and leaving as a Therapeutic Rehabilitation Supervisor.

Frank's hobbies included collecting and trading knives, riding his Harley Davidson, often traveling down south and completed a cross-country road trip in their Mini Cooper to Portland, Oregon, along Route 66.

Frank is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Rhonda McClellan Cannon; his children, Leslie (Hugh) Clines, Beth Bramel, Brooke Cannon, Sarah (Jarrad) Pollitt, John (Renae) Cannon, and Ashley (Mike) Cannon; his grandchildren, India and Elaina Shaw, Connor and Ian Clines, Bradley (Halie), Jessica (Jake), and Chrissy Bramel, Blake Cannon and Jordan Pollitt, Austin Watkins, Ashton Cannon, Brock and Zeppelin Hollon, and Mackenzie Cannon, Gavin, Colby (Madison), Levi (Molly), and Logan Moran and Isaac Johnson; and his great grandchildren, Cashus Darnell, Olivia Bramel, Sophia Brockman, Weston Cannon,  and Truett Moran.

Other survivors include his twin sisters, Martha (Dick) Neff and Mary Lumpkin; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and outlaws.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date.
