Obituary

Gary David Ratliff, Sr., 45, of Wallingford Road in Flemingsburg, passed away tragically on Friday, July 4, 2025, due to a fireworks accident.

Born July 28, 1979, in Morehead, Dave was the beloved son of Gary Ratliff and Teresa Hall Ratliff of Flemingsburg, who survive him.

He is also survived by two sons, Gary David Ratliff, Jr. of Carlisle and Lance Corporal Andrew Jeremiah Ratliff (Jacie) stationed in California; one sister, Carey Ratliff Harlow (Will) of Flemingsburg; his nieces and nephews, Ashley Brewer, Cameron Brewer, Connor Brewer, Wil Harlow, Shelby Neal (Derrick), and Connor Harlow; and two great nieces, Lara and Sophia Neal.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, William Howard Taft Ratliff and Katherine Brown Ratliff Caudill, and maternal grandparents, James David Hall and Beatrice Littleton Hall.

Dave, affectionately known by many as "Skwerl," was the Superintendent at Concord Tank, Inc., where he worked for the past 14 years. Earlier in his career, he worked at FHG, Inc, Mama Joe's Pizza and NAPA.

A 1998 graduate of Fleming County High School. He was passionate about motorcycles, target shooting, and diving into the latest YouTube hacks. His "Man Cave" was a hub of creativity, where he brought his custom metal art and woodworking projects to life. Dave was known for his sharp mind and inventive spirit.

Above all, he cherished time with his family. Dave took great pride in planning his annual fireworks show for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049.  A memorial service will be held immediately at 2 p.m. with family, friends, and Brother Gerald Saunders officiating.

All arrangements are under the direction of Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
