Harold Dean Sorrell

Harold Dean Sorrell, 74, of Ringos Mills Road, Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at UK St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead.

Born November 19, 1951, in Lexington, Kentucky, he was the son of Noel Preston Sorrell and Barbara Ann Denton Sorrell, who preceded him in death.

Harold is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Lauderman Sorrell, whom he married on August 6, 1988. He passed away just one day before they would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. Together they shared a life filled with memorable adventures, traveling to NASCAR races, farm machinery shows, and countless trips in search of farm equipment. Harold also held a special place in his heart for Emily Jamison and Liz Jenkins, as well as their children—Kurtiss, Kadence, Emmie, Ellie, and Penelope Jenkins, and Sawyer Jamison.

Education was an important part of Harold's life and career. He faithfully served the Fleming County School System for 25 years, teaching Industrial Arts from 1974 until 1997. Through his practical knowledge and skilled instruction, he influenced the lives of countless students. He later served as Director of Transportation and Building Maintenance until his retirement in 1999.

Although he retired from education, Harold never retired from farming. A lifelong farmer, he found his greatest satisfaction working the land and raising cattle. He continually sought better ways to improve his operation, experimenting with cattle rations until he perfected the right balance, modifying machinery for greater efficiency, and adopting practical, cost-effective farming methods. Never one to shy away from a hard day’s work, Harold became a trusted source of knowledge and advice for fellow farmers. His practical expertise also benefited Grotec Mineral for many years through his hands-on approach to feeding and finishing cattle.

Harold was equally devoted to serving his community. He generously shared his time, leadership, and agricultural knowledge through service on the Fleming County Hospital Board of Directors, the Southern States Flemingsburg Cooperative Board, the Farm Service Agency County Committee, and the Hillsboro Fire Department.

Harold leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity and service. He will be remembered as a good husband, neighbor, friend, Godfather, and Pa.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Hutton Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Grimes and Bro. Gerald Saunders officiating. Pallbearers will be William Earl Humphries, Steve Egan, Eddie Moran, Mark Henderson, Lacey Turner, Branden Turner, Liz Jenkins, Emily Jamison, Jarred Fritz, and Todd Johnson.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049
