Kathleen "Caty" Manning Saunders, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Hospice of Hope in Maysville.

Born April 27, 1925, on a farm near Poplar Plains, she was the daughter of the late Elza and Gladys Hawkins Manning,

Kathleen married Homer Saunders on November 9, 1946. They lived on a farm in Hillsboro, Kentucky, where they raised their five children. In addition to farming, she retired as a cook for the Fleming County School System.

Kathleen was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church for many years where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and served on numerous committees. She was a member of the Hillsboro Women's Softball team and was known to score more than one homerun a game. She was honored to be named a Kentucky Colonel and also The Fleming Shopper Mother of the Year. She was also one of the founding members of the Widow's Group. This group of widows enjoyed a special friendship where they visited and enjoyed many meals together.

She is survived by five children, Barbara (George) Kirk, Howard (Sandy) Saunders, Darrell (Hazel Lynne) Saunders, Markey (Homer) Hurst, and Timmy (Amy) Saunders; ten grandchildren, Gina (Joe) Smith, Glendon Kirk, Kelly (James) Hicks, Jeremy (Amanda) Saunders, Andrew Saunders,  Derek Saunders, Trey Rosser, Sydney (Cory) Moore, Brady (Morgan) Saunders, and Cole Saunders; nine great grandchildren, Madison Smith, Alyssa and Sawyer Hicks, Carter and Leah Saunders, Lily Saunders, Madalynn Saunders, Riley and Emerson Moore; one brother, Raymond Garr Manning; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Wayne Saunders, four brothers:  Berry Manning, Plummer Manning, Randall Manning, and Frazee Manning, and one sister, Pearl Gooding.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Hutton Funeral Home with Brother Richard Engle and Brother Gerald Saunders officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2024, and after 9 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station, Maysville, KY 41056.
