Barbara Allen Martin Smoot, age 81, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 5, 1937, in Marion, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Danny and Dorothy Hall Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Louise Spurlock; two sisters, Siera Jones and Rose Jones; one brother, Danny Martin; and her beloved pet, Chelsea.

Barbara is survived by her ex-husband and best friend, Jesse Oscar Smoot; four daughters, Katie Jolly (Gary), Mary Vise (Kenny), Debbie Gray (Boyd), and Patricia "Nell" Skaggs (Willie), all of Hillsboro; one son, Jesse Smoot, Jr. (Tracy) of Vanceburg; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a special caregiver, Tracy Smoot; and other extended family and friends.

She was a former employee of Food Lion in Morehead where she worked in the deli and was a member of the Ringos Mills Christian Church. Barbara was a devoted member of the Hillsboro Homemakers Club where she was involved in many community activities and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Hutton Funeral Home with Brother David Barnett and Ernie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Jeremy Hawkins, Brandon Gray, Sean Gray, Jordan Skaggs, Levi Smoot, and Jason Gulley.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
