Claude A. "Sonny" Cooper, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, formerly of Fleming County, passed away peacefully April 19, 2025, at St. Claire UK Hospital after a brief illness. He was born June 7, 1943, in Fleming County to the late Ona Kissick and Chester Cooper.
He was preceded in death by first wife Carolyn Sue Jones Cooper on October 19, 2001, and his sisters, Arlene and Lodema Cooper.
Sonny leaves behind his loving wife, Wanda Ballard Cooper; his daughter, Annette Maze (Tim) of Grange City; four stepchildren, Gary Everman (Carla) of Georgetown, Darlene Switzer (Eddie) of Versailles, Jeff Everman (Amy) and Mitchell Everman (Teresa), all of Georgetown, and his cherished grandchildren, Erica Robinson (Jonathan) of Hillsboro, Tyler Lee of Morehead, and Hunter Dailey of Grange City. He was a proud great-grandfather to Kevin Alfrey, Emma Lee, Annebell and Cooper Robinson.
Sonny was a retired machine mechanic who took great pride in his craft. He was known for his strong work ethic, hands-on skill, and the satisfaction he found in a job well done.
A man of deep Christian faith, Sonny lived a life marked by quiet strength, loyalty, and compassion. Though stubborn at times, he was genuine, kind to all and had a special way of leaving people better than he found them. He had many dear friends and was always ready to lend a hand or share a story.
One of his closest companions in recent years was his beloved dog, Annie, who rarely left his side and brought him comfort and joy. Sonny will be deeply missed by his family, many special friends, and all who were lucky enough to know him.
