Isom (Papaw Pete) Waggoner, age 86, of Waggoner Lane, Hillsboro, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Ruby on Friday, January 12, 2024, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
Isom (Pete) was born October 5, 1937, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Brack and Rosa Lewis Waggoner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Milton, Millard, Parrish, Bill and Johnny Waggoner, and two sisters, Hazel Waggoner and Irene Sparks.
His wife, Ruby Story Waggoner, who was the love of his life, preceded him in death on April 7, 2014.
Isom is survived by two children, Terry (Donna) Royse and Debbie (Wayne) Conley, all of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren, Tera (Patrick) Carpenter, Tina (John) Claypoole, Michael Conley, Darren (Jill) Royse, Kristy (Glenn) Standafer, Misty (Shannon) Weaver, and Casey (Darrell) Doyle; 21 great grandchildren, Lillian, Bennett, and Fletcher Carpenter, Shana (Sam) Thompson, Megan Claypoole, Libby and Gaven Conley, Mary Margaret David, Montana Brown, Dawson Wagner, Brac, Gunner, Jonah and Ivy Royse, Grace and Hannah Hay, Laton Will and Kyle Weaver, Madison Edmond, and Conner Hazelrigg; and five great-great grandchildren, Oaklynn, Kase, Emma, Addison, and Wesley.
Other survivors include two sisters, Cora Phillips of Jonesboro, Ohio, and Betty Eldridge of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; two special children that visited frequently, A. J. and Cooper Robinson; and extended family and many friends.
Pete’s family was his life, especially all of his grandchildren. He loved each one dearly and made each one feel like they were the only one.
He was employed by the Kentucky State Highway as road foreman for many years. It was a top priority for him to make sure our roads were safe for everyone. He took great pride in his work. He also farmed alongside his family for many years as well as always making time for his family’s every need. He was very devoted to each one. Isom was an honest, God-fearing man. God became very important in his life and he spent much time reading the Bible as he grew older.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Hutton Funeral Home with Brother Willie Skaggs and Brother Gerald Saunders officiating. A burial will follow at Hillsboro Cemetery.
